—CAPITAL PUNISHMENT IN JEWISH LAW AND EXPERIENCE
On Friday, April 27, immediately following the Erev Shabbat , Marshall Dayan, J.D. will discuss with us how Judaism views capital punishment.
Dayan is an Assistant Federal Public Defender in the Capital Habeas Unit of the Federal Defender’s Office in Pittsburgh. He has been involved in the anti-death penalty movement since 1981 and currently serves as co-Chair of the board of Pennsylvanians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty, Vice-President of the board of the Pittsburgh Are Jewish Committee, and as a board member of the Pgh. Chapter of the ACLU, the Jewish Social Policy Action Network, Witness to Innocence, and Adat Shalom Synagogue.
He has written several law review articles on the death penalty in various journals, and several pieces on capital litigation for The Champion, the magazine of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
